Olive Oil stocked in Italy. Update of 17 June 2020

The Report is drawn up by the Icqrf on data recorded in the olive oil computerized registers. On 17 June 2020, the operators present in the online olive oil register were 24,217, representative of 26,322 active premises. Olive oils: 327,708 tons in stocks. Compared to 10 June 2020 a 2.0% reduction was recorded (334,498 tons). Stocks keep being higher than the stocks recorded the same period of last year (+34,2%)

Olive Oil stocked in Italy. Update of 17 June 2020

The stock of olive oil in Italy on 17 June 2020 is 327,708 tons. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVO) represents the 70.4% of the stock. Among the EVO oil, the 59.2% (136,494 tons) is of Italian origin and the 34.1% is of EU origin. The extra-EU olive oil stocks (just 8,446 tons) and blend olive oils (7,152 tons) are marginal.

Where is physically stocked the olive oil in Italy?

Over half of the national olive oil (55%) is stocked in the regions of southern Italy, with the significant contribution of the regions Puglia and Calabria (36.5% and 10.5%, respectively). At the provincial level, 16.7% of olive oil is stocked in the province of Bari and 9.4% in Barletta-Andria-Trani, and 8.9% in Perugia province.

At the regional level, the top 3 regions (Puglia, Tuscany, Calabria) hold the 61.8% of the total national stock.

At provincial level, it is clear a significant concentration of olive oil stocks: in the top 10 provinces is stocked the 66.7% of the Italian olive oil. Among these provinces, there are five from the central- northern Italy: Perugia, Lucca, Florence, Imperia, and Siena.

Which olive oil in the olive mill Italy?

Despite the large number of GIs present (47), out of a total of 15.9 million litres of GI olive oil in stock, the PDO Terra di Bari represent itself the 55.5% and the first 20 names 97.1% of the total GIs olive oil stocked in Italy.

Overall, the PDO / PGI olive oil in stock is equal to 4.5% of the total olive oil stocked in Italy and represents 6.3% of the stored EVO oil.

The total stock of extra virgin olive oiland virgin olive oilfrom organic farming amounts to 36,300 tons, almost exclusively EVO (99.7%). It is a relevant figure since the EVO Bio constitutes 16.6% of the overall EVO stocked in Italy.

Compared to 15 June 2019, olive oil stocks are 34.2% higher. This data is mainly justified by the changes in EVO oil stock, and, in particular, by the changes in stock of the Italian EVO. Indeed, the Italian EVO oil stock is 50,350 tons (+58.4%) higher than the stock registered on 15 June 2019.

The increases in olive-pomace oil (+37.8%) and in lampante olive oil (+17.7%) stocks deserve to be mentioned.

Very high compared to the milling season and the 2019 value is the amount of olive oil stock to be classified (+43.8%).

Compared to 10 June 2020, no significant reduction of olive oil stocks was recorded (-2.0%). The reduction in EVO oil stocks (-1,2%) is mainly due to the reduction in Italian EVO oil (-2.5%). Deserve to be mentioned the stock reduction of pomace olive oil (-4.5%) and olive oil and refined olive oil (- 7.3%).
