Olive oil stocked in Italy. Update of 28 February 2022

The Report is drawn up by the Icqrf on data recorded in the olive oil computerized registers, which at 28 February 2022 are 22,669. Olive oils: 363,086 tons in stocks. Compared to 31 January 2022 a 2.6% increase was recorded (353,767 tons). Stocks are approximately the same (-0.4%) than the stocks recorded the same period of last year

Olive oil stocked in Italy. Update of 28 February 2022

The stock of olive oil in Italy on 28 February 2022 is 363,086 tons. Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Evo,  represents the 76.0% of the stock. In the category of Evo oil, stocks of olive oil of Italian origin (171,025 t) represent the 62.0%, followed by those of Eu origin 33.4%. The extra-Eu olive oil stocks and blend olive oils are marginal.

Where is physically stocked the olive oil in Italy?

More than half of the national olive oil (56%) is stocked in the regions of southern Italy, with the significant contribution of the regions Puglia and Calabria (38.7% and 9.4%, respectively). At the provincial level, 17.9% of olive oil is stocked in the province of Bari, 9.7% in Barletta-Andria- Trani, and 9.3% in Perugia province.

Which olive oil in the olive mill Italy?

Despite the large number of GIs present (49), out of a total of 25.9 million litres of Gi olive oil in stock, lower than the stocks recorded the 31 January 2022 (27.3 million litres), the Pdo Terra di Bari represent the 46.7% and the first 20 names 97.1% of the total Gis olive oil stocked in Italy. Overall, the Pdo/ Pgi olive oil in stock is equal to 6.6% of the total olive oil stocked in Italy and represents 8.6% of the stored Evo oil.

The total stock of “extra virgin olive oil” and “virgin olive oil” from organic farming amounts to 48,352 tons (+25.9% of the value recorded the same period of last year), almost exclusively Evo (99.8%), equal to 17.5% of the overall Evo stocked in Italy. The olive oil Bio is mainly stocked in Puglia, Calabria, Sicily, and Tuscany.

Compared to 28 February 2021, olive oil stocks are approximately the same (-0.4%). This is related mainly to the increase of Evo oil (+6.2%), counterbalance by the reduction in lampante olive oil (- 28.0%), olive oil and refined olive oil (-20.9%), pomace olive oil (-9.5%), and virgin olive oil (- 24.7%). On regard of Evo oil, it is important to remark the value of Italian Evo oil stocked which almost reached the level recorded in the same period of 2020 (173.787 t).

Compared to 31 January 2022, a 2.6% increase of olive oil stocks is recorded. This is related mainly to the increase of Evo oil (+2.0%), mainly of Eu origin (+10.7%) while the Evo of Italian origin stocks were lower (-1.7%), but also to lampante olive oil (+10.4%), and pomace olive oil (+7.5%).
