Olive oil stocked in Italy. Update of 30 November 2020

The Report is drawn up by the ICQRF on data recorded in the olive oil computerized registers. On 30 November 2020, the operators present in the online olive oil register were 24,217, representative of 26,322 active premises. Olive oils: 292,797 tons in stocks. Compared to 4 November 2020 a 14.4% increase was recorded (256,053 tons). Stocks keep being higher than the stocks recorded the same period of last year (+33,8%)

Olive oil stocked in Italy. Update of 30 November 2020

The stock of olive oil in Italy on 30 November 2020 is 292,797 tons. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVO) represents the 72.3% of the stock. Among the EVO oil, the 62.7% (132,752 tons) is of Italian origin and the 30.7% is of EU origin. The extra-EU olive oil stocks and blend olive oils are marginal.

Where is physically stocked the olive oil in Italy?

More than half of the national olive oil (51%) is stocked in the regions of southern Italy, with the significant contribution of the regions Puglia and Calabria (33.4% and 10.0%, respectively). At the provincial level, 15.9% of olive oil is stocked in the province of Bari, 8.3% in Perugia and 7.6% in Barletta-Andria-Trani province.

At the regional level, the top 4 regions (Puglia, Tuscany, Calabria, and Umbria) hold the 67.6% of the total national stock.

At provincial level, it is clear a significant concentration of olive oil stocks: in the top 10 provinces is stocked the 63.5% of the Italian olive oil.

Which olive oil in the olive mill Italy?

Despite the large number of GIs present (48), out of a total of 22.4 million litres of GI olive oil in stock, the PDO Terra di Bari represent itself the 35.0% and the first 20 names 96.2% of the total GIs olive oil stocked in Italy.

Overall, the PDO / PGI olive oil in stock is equal to 7.0% of the total olive oil stocked in Italy and represents 9.7% of the stored EVO oil.

The total stock of extra virgin olive oiland virgin olive oilfrom organic farming amounts to 33,295 tons, almost exclusively EVO (99.8%), equal to 15.7% of the overall EVO stocked in Italy. The olive oil BIO is mainly stocked in Puglia, Sicily, Calabria and Tuscany.

Compared to 30 November 2019, olive oil stocks are 33.8% higher. This data is mainly justified by the changes in EVO oil stock (+44.3%), and, in particular, by the changes in stock of the Italian EVO. Indeed, the Italian EVO oil stock is 48,926 tons (+58.4%) higher than the stock registered on 30 November 2019.

The lower quantities of virgin olive oil (-35.7%) and the higher quantities of lampante olive oil (+20.9%), olive oil and refined olive oil (+27.8%), and pomace olive oil (+15.8%) stocks deserve to be mentioned.

Compared to 4 November 2020, a 14.4% increase of olive oil stocks was recorded. This is mainly related to the increase EVO oil (+17.3%) and, in particular, of Italian EVO (+35.1%). A reduction in EU EVO oil (-3.5%) was recorded.

Moreover, the reduction in lampante olive oil (-4.7%) and the increase in pomace olive oil (+13.7%) and olive oil to be classified stocks (+56.2%) deserve to be mentioned.
