Tunisia announces record olive harvest and strong protective measures

The olive harvest will approach 280,000 tonnes this season, four times more than the previous one which was 70 thousand tons. It was revealed by Lassâad Lachaal, Minister of Agriculture in a statement on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Jawhara FM on the occasion of the celebration of the annual National Day of the Tree. The minister said, moreover, that strict draconian measures were taken to preserve the collection and encourage the use of the best production methods. He also said that he aimed at enhancing protection of olive trees fields through regular patrols and reinforced units of the national Guard and announced severe sanctions against those who would try to harm the crop.
