A special postal marking for oil

Poste Italiane will be present at the fourth Olio Officina Food Festival. All stamp collectors can have their mail cancelled with a special postal marking devoted to the culture of olive oil. Whoever is unable to attend this event can request the cancellation at the Post Office’s philatelic bureau during the following sixty days.

A special postal marking for oil

On Friday, January 23, Poste Italiane (the Italian postal system) will feature at the Olio Officina Food Festival with a special cancellation, specifically designed for this event.

From 11.00 am to 5.00 pm, there will be a station at the venue where all stamp collectors can have this special cancellation applied to their postal stationery.

The cancel was designed by Valerio Marino for Olio Officina and has an oblong shape evoking that of an olive. It depicts an olive branch and a small bottle, which symbolize the start and end of the oil production process. The wording “Le forme dell’olio” (i.e. the shapes of oil) recalls the packaging contest organized every year by Olio Officina.

Particular attention will be given to the stamps, chosen so as to render the stationery, cards and letters more interesting. These can then be kept as a souvenir of this event.

Stamps pertaining to the world of olive and oil will be available, as well as all the most recent stamps and philatelic products issued by Poste Italiane: folders, presentation packs, postcards, books, stockbooks, stamp albums and various other collectors’ items.

After January 23, the cancellation will be brought to the Philatelic Bureau of the Milan Post Office at Palazzo della Regione, and for the following 60 days will be made available, so as to satisfy the requests of those unable to attend the festival. The die hub will be then kept at the Museo storico della comunicazione (the Historical Museum of Communication).
