Olive Oil stocked in Italy. Update of 30 June 2021
The Report is drawn up by the ICQRF on data recorded in the olive oil computerized registers (RTO), which at 30 June 2021 are almost 23,000. Olive oils: 294,357 tons in stocks. Compared to 31 May 2021 an 8.1% decrease was recorded (320,432 tons). Stocks are 7.5% lower than the stocks recorded the same period of last year
The stock of olive oil in Italy on 30 June 2021 is 294.357 tons.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVO) represents the 72.3% of the stock. Among the EVO oil, the 46.9% (99,660 tons) is of Italian origin and the 44.7% is of EU origin.
The extra-EU olive oil stocks and blend olive oils are marginal.

Where is physically stocked the olive oil in Italy?
Almost half of the national olive oil (49%) is stocked in the regions of southern Italy, with the significant contribution of the regions Puglia and Calabria (34.0% and 7.7%, respectively). At the provincial level, 18.1% of olive oil is stocked in the province of Bari, 11.6% in Perugia and 6.8% in Barletta-Andria-Trani province.

At the regional level, the top 4 regions (Puglia, Tuscany, Umbria, and Calabria) hold the 69.4% of the total national stock.
At provincial level, it is clear a significant concentration of olive oil stocks: in the top 10 provinces is stocked the 68.8% of the Italian olive oil.
Which olive oil in the olive mill Italy?
Despite the large number of GIs present (48), out of a total of 14.3 million litres of GI olive oil in stock, the PDO Terra di Bari represent the 37.2% and the first 20 names 96.4% of the total GIs olive oil stocked in Italy.
Overall, the PDO / PGI olive oil in stock is equal to 4.5% of the total olive oil stocked in Italy and represents 6.2% of the stored EVO oil.
The total stock of “extra virgin olive oil” and “virgin olive oil” from organic farming amounts to 33,531 tons, almost exclusively EVO (99.2%), equal to 15.6% of the overall EVO stocked in Italy. The olive oil BIO is mainly stocked in Puglia, Sicily, Tuscany, and Calabria.
Olive oil stocks 30 June 2021 vs. 1 July 2020
Compared to 1 July 2020, olive oil stocks are 7.5% lower. This data is justified by the changes in stocks of pomace olive oil (-28.8%), EVO oil (-4.5%), virgin olive oil (-25.4%), lampante olive oil (-3.3%) and olive oil to be classified (-28.8%). The stocks are higher than last year for olive oil and refined olive oil (+9.1%).
On regard of EVO oil, it is important to remark the strong reduction of Italian EVO oil (-23.7%), partially counterbalanced by the increase of EU EVO oil (+24.7%) and Extra EU EVO oil (+38.0%).
Olive oil stocks 30 June 2021 vs. 31 May 2021
Compared to 31 May 2021, an 8.1% decrease of olive oil stocks is recorded. This is related mainly to the reduction of EVO oil (-7.8%), pomace olive oil (-11.7%) and lampante olive oil (-10.8%). Anyway, a reduction in stocks of all categories of olive oils is recorded.
