Olive oil stocked in Italy. Update of 30 April 2022

The Report is drawn up by the Icqrf on data recorded in the olive oil computerized registers, which at 30 April 2022 are 22,126. Olive oils: 325,558 tons in stocks. Compared to 31 March 2022 a 3.9% decrease was recorded (338,881 tons). Stocks are 6.0% lower than the stocks recorded the same period of last year

Olive oil stocked in Italy. Update of 30 April 2022

The stock of olive oil in Italy on 30 April 2022 is 325,558 tons. Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Evo, represents the 75.7% of the stock. In the category of Evo oil, stocks of olive oil of Italian origin (147,492 t) represent the 59.9%, followed by those of Eu origin 34.8%. The extra-Eu olive oil stocks and blend olive oils are marginal.

Where is physically stocked the olive oil in Italy?

More than half of the national olive oil (54%) is stocked in the regions of southern Italy, with the significant contribution of the regions Puglia and Calabria (37.3% and 9.3%, respectively). At the provincial level, 18.5% of olive oil is stocked in the province of Bari, 9.1% in Barletta-Andria-Trani and 9.0% in Perugia provinces.

At the regional level, the top 4 regions (Puglia, Tuscany, Umbria, and Calabria) hold the 70.2% of the total national stock.

At provincial level, it is clear a significant concentration of olive oil stocks: in the top 10 provinces is stocked the 65.9% of the Italian olive oil.

Which olive oil in the olive mill Italy?

Despite the large number of GIs present (49), out of a total of 21.5 million litres of GI olive oil in stock, lower than the stocks recorded the 31 March 2022 (23.3 million litres), the Pdo Terra di Bari represent the 47.9% and the first 20 names 97.2% of the total GIs olive oil stocked in Italy.

Overall, the Pdo/ Pgi olive oil in stock is equal to 6.1% of the total olive oil stocked in Italy and represents 8.0% of the stored Evo oil.

The total stock of “extra virgin olive oil” and “virgin olive oil” from organic farming amounts to 45,027 tons (+16.1% of the value recorded the same period of last year), almost exclusively Evo (99.8%), equal to 18.2% of the overall Evo stocked in Italy. The olive oil Bio is mainly stocked in Puglia, Calabria, Sicily, and Tuscany.

Olive oil stocks 30 April 2022 vs. 30 April 2021

Olive oil stocks are 6.0% lower compared to 30 April 2021. This is related to the decrease of all olive oil categories: Evo oil (-1.7%), lampante olive oil (-29.2%), pomace olive oil (-16.3%), olive oil and refined olive oil (-12.9%), and, to a lower extent, virgin olive oil (-4.4%).

On regard of Evo oil, it is important to remark that Italian Evo oil stocked are 20.8% higher than the same period of 2021.

Compared to 31 March 2022, a 3.9% reduction of olive oil stocks is recorded. This is related mainly to the decrease of Evo of Italian origin (-6.7%), but also to lampante olive oil (-7.4%), and pomace olive oil (-4.6%).
