Olive oil stocked. Update of 28 February 2023

The Report is drawn up by the Icqrf on data recorded in the olive oil computerized registers (Rto), which at 28 February 2023 are 22,085. Olive oils: 313,263 tons in stock. Compared to 31 January 2023 a 0.7% decrease was recorded (315,445 tons). Stocks are 13.7% lower than the stocks recorded the same period of last year

Olive oil stocked. Update of 28 February 2023

The stock of olive oil in Italy on 28 February 2023 is 313,263 tons. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Evo) represents the 73.7% of the stock. In the category of Evo oil, stocks of olive oil of Italian origin (129,190 t) represent the 56.0%, followed by those of Eu origin 36.8%. The extra-Eu olive oil stocks and blend olive oils are marginal.

Where is physically stocked the olive oil in Italy?

More than half of the national olive oil (52%) is stocked in the regions of southern Italy, with the significant contribution of the regions Puglia and Calabria (34.5% and 8.7%, respectively). At the provincial level, 18.9% of olive oil is stocked in the province of Bari, and 9.6% in Perugia.

At the regional level, the top 4 regions (Puglia, Tuscany, Umbria, and Calabria) hold the 70.2% of the total national stock.

At provincial level, it is clear a significant concentration of olive oil stocks: in the top 10 provinces is stocked the 67.5% of the Italian olive oil.

Which olive oil in the olive mill Italy?

Despite the large number of GIs present (49), out of a total of 21.1 million litres of Gi olive oil in stock, lower than the stocks recorded the 28 February 2022 (25.9 million litres), the Pdo Terra di Bari represent the 34.4% and the first 20 names 97.2% of the total GIs olive oil stocked in Italy.

Overall, the Pdo / Pgi olive oil in stock is equal to 6.2% of the total olive oil stocked in Italy and represents 8.4% of the stored Evo oil.

The total stock of “extra virgin olive oil” and “virgin olive oil” from organic farming amounts to 38,827 tons (-19.7% of the value recorded the same period of last year), almost exclusively Evo (99.8%), equal to 16.8% of the overall Evo stocked in Italy. The olive oil Bio is mainly stocked in Puglia, Sicily, Tuscany, and Calabria.

Olive oil stocks 28 February 2023 vs. 28 February 2022

Olive oil stocks are lower (-13.7%) compared to 28 February 2022. This is mainly related to the decrease of Evo (-16.3%) and pomace olive oil (-14.2%). A stock increase is recorded for olive oil and refined olive oil (+25.3%) and for virgin olive oil (+29.0%).

On regard of Evo oil, it is important to remark that Italian Evo oil stocked (129,190 t) are lower than the stock of 28 February 2022 (-24.5%).

Olive oil stocks 28 February 2023 vs. 31 January 2023

Compared to 31 January 2023, a 0.7% decrease of olive oil stocks is recorded. This is related to the decrease of Evo oil (-2.4%), mainly of Italian origin (-8,897 t).

Moreover, deserve to be mentioned the increase recorded for olive oil and refined olive oil (+19.9%) and lampante (+6.0%).
